SP9 Microeconomic Analysis

Microeconomic analysis of sustainable Natural Resources Management innovations in rubber cultivation

The objective is to establish a better understanding of the potential to introduce a sustainable rubber plantation system in southern Yunnan. For this, an ex-ante impact analysis of sustainable Natural Resource Management (NRM) innovations of farmers in this area will be carried out. This subproject will provide critical information on the economics of rubber production from the farmer’s point of view. It will also estimate the adjustment costs of farmers if they were to adopt more sustainable rubber production systems. Further information will be generated on the expected welfare effects of future development scenarios. Policy makers will be made aware of the long term economic impacts of increasing intensification and liberalization of rubber production on the one hand, and information will be provided for provincial and national decision makers regarding the costs and benefits of implementing ecologically and economically sustainable land management concepts on the other hand.
